Buddhist Thangkas

Enlighten yourself, family, or loved ones with a traditional and authentic Tibetan ceremonial thangka.

A 'thangka' (pronounced tonka) is a painted or embroidered Buddhist banner or scroll painting, which is hung in a monastery or a family altar and occasionally carried by monks in ceremonial processions. Because they are able to be rolled up like a scroll, monks carried these from monestary to monestary with ease. Elaborate colorful scenes of the depicted deities can be used as teaching tools, describing historical events concerning important Lamas, or retelling myths. These uniquely decorative devotional images act as the centerpiece during a ritual or ceremony and are often used as mediums through which one can offer prayers or make requests. Overall, and perhaps most importantly, thangkas are used as a meditation tool to help bring one further down the path to enlightenment.

These meticulously detailed thangkas are handpainted by Nepal monks. Each depicted painting is surrounded by a woven brocade in ornate geometric patterns. Ready to hang. Each thangka includes a wooden hanging weight rod adorned with detailed brass or silver finial.
