In the Book of Revelation, seven angels are described standing before God. These angels have been dubbed the 'archangels.' Archangels are the chief or principal angels. They are members of the second-lowest rank in the medieval order of cellestial beings, ranking above angels and below principalities. The principalities are one of the nine orders of angels in the traditional Christian hierarchy.

Archangel Gabriel with Trumpet Wall Hanging
Gabriel is the angel of annunciation, resurrection, mercy, vengeance, death and revelation. As one of the Archangels, Gabriel appears to Daniel to tell him of the coming of the Messiah; a message which she later repeats to Mary in the Annunciation. To the Muslims, Gabriel is the 'Spirit of Truth.' Mohammed claimed it was Gabriel who dictated to him the Koran. In Jewish legend, it was Gabriel who dealt death and destruction to Sodom and Gommorah. This wall hanging has been delicately reproduced and hand finished after a Van Eyck painting. Here, Gabriel is shown sounding the trumpet that will announce the beginning of Revelation. From a painting by Hubert Van Eyck, 1475 AD, Ghent Cathedral, Belgium. Compound stone, Aged Stone finish, ready to hang.
