A game of passage. Senet was the most popular board game of ancient Egypt. Archeological evidence shows it was played by all levels of society. Peasants played it on magnificent boards made of rare wood and ivory. rediscovered in 1922 among the treasures in the tomb of the boy King Tutankhamon who lived nearly 4000 years ago. It was played by Norwegians, Swedes, Danes, Finns, Icelanders, and Russians. The Vikings carried the game all through Europe and down to India/Persia and as far south as Baghdad, Iraq. In ancient Persia they ran into a game called “Shatranj”. Out of Tahluf & Shatranj became what we know today as chess.
