This sculpture by Antonio Canova was finished just months before he died. It was commissioned by an Englishman named Sir Simon Houghton Clark. It can now be found in the National Gallery of Canada. Cupid and Psyche 11"
Originally sculpted by Antonio Canova (Rome,1793), Cupid and Psyche is representative of the neoclassical style, which successfully combined emotion and purity. In the myth illustrated here, Eros is about to revive his lover Psyche, who has been put to sleep by a magic perfume.
