Japanese Garden by Monet Porcelain Box, Goebel Collection
In 1890, the French Impressionist Painter Monet bought a small marshland and flower garden across from his house. To build his own lily pond, he diverted the stream that went through the marsh. Within this environment, Monet created a series of lush, colorful paintings in which he studied light as it reflected across the water and flowers. This porcelain box beautifully illustrates one of the paintings he made during the late 19th century.
